Why enable SystmOne with cloudSwXtch?

TPP Approved

The Phoenix Partnership (TPP) has approved the cloudSwXtch architecture. TPP designed, built, and continues to maintain SystmOne, one of the UK’s most widely used electronic patient record systems.

Employed At Scale

Scales from single users to very large user populations.

Reference customers have deployed SystmOne on AVD for large clinical teams with production SLAs.

AVD Ready

Works with existing Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) images & tooling.

Connect from approved locations or securely over the internet - one place for clinical apps and office productivity.

Multicast in Azure

Adds standards-based IP multicast and IGMP so SystmOne can run in AVD like it does in a physical datacenter.

No-Code Changes

No changes to SystmOne or your code.

Security & Compliance

Aligns with NHS HSCN remote access patterns and enterprise controls. Keep traffic private with ExpressRoute + network segmentation.

CASE STUDY

cloudSwXtch enables Secure, Cloud-Based SystmOne Access on Azure Virtual Desktop for NHS Care Teams

SystmOne is widely used across the NHS and constituents for primary and community care. Many organisations access clinical systems over HSCN using Citrix from approved locations.  Teams want cloud-based access so clinicians can use SystmOne alongside Microsoft 365 in the same AVD session.

The blocker: multicast isn’t natively supported in Azure, and NHS-grade security must be maintained.

The Objective

Provide secure, cloud-based SystmOne access for caregivers, patients, and researchers:

     via Azure Virtual Desktop

     with no code changes

     and with full performance.

cloudSwXtch Solution

Using cloudSwXtch, NHS organisations can bridge the gap between legacy multicast-dependent applications and Azure’s unicast-only networking, enabling secure, high-performance SystmOne access in the cloud.

  • Protocol Fanout / Multicast: Receive NHS unicast UDP across ExpressRoute -or- public internet and converts to multicast for SystmOne consumers.

  • No code changes: Enable 3rd party health records software to run unmodified.

  • AVD friendly: Optimized for Azure Virtual Desktop.

  • Enterprise security: Works with Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), network segmentation, and private connectivity.
